In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has enabled formerly simple household items to be brought to life through their ability to connect to the internet. IoT advancements coupled with the universal desire to realize our childhood dreams of telekinetic powers have led to an explosion in consumer products that allow us to remotely control everything from lights, thermostats, door locks, pet feeders, home security devices, and more.

While these innovations can surely streamline your home, there are also strong advantages to having them in the office as well. Benefits such as the simplicity of unifying multiple devices into a single user interface, easy-to-clean low-touch shared spaces, and of course, added style-points are why Poly is pleased to announce our latest feature release with our partner Extron.

The latest Poly Video OS 3.2 update now includes Zoom Rooms controls for the G7500, Studio X30, and Studio X50. When combined with an Extron control processor, you can now control in-room devices directly from the Zoom user interface on Poly’s TC8 touch screen.

Set the Stage with Zoom Rooms Controls

Working closely with Extron, our teams have been working on the development of scalable integration options for Extron control systems, audio devices, and signal switching for Poly Room Solutions for Zoom Rooms™. This new feature from Zoom will allow end-users to control projectors, displays, smart lights, window shades, as well as third party AV devices all from a single touch controller.

“From Zoom event metrics analysis to room sleep/wake state, room controls with Poly and Extron allow a simplified control approach. By simplifying hardware systems to a few components, we can now easily integrate environmental necessities in the meeting space while maintaining a simple user experience for a more holistic space design architecture. Poly and Extron leveraging the Zoom Rooms platform opens the door to a simple and frictionless system implementation.” — Ty Buell, PSO – Solutions Architect at Zoom.

Low Touch = Fewer Germs

As some organizations turn their sights toward re-opening the workplace, there has been a great deal of attention paid to redesigning office spaces to accommodate social distancing and little to no touch requirements of shared spaces. Rooms controls address this by allowing meeting participants to only have to interact with one, easy-to-clean surface.
